Private by design
Most background removers upload your photo to a server. Here the AI model is downloaded to your browser and runs on your own device, so your photo never leaves it.
The model is stored in your browser after the first use, so next time it starts in seconds, even offline. The cut out is applied at the full size of your photo.
Tips for a clean background removal
Background removal works best when the subject stands out clearly: a person in front of a wall, a product on a table, a pet on the grass. Good light, a sharp photo and a background that differs in colour from the subject all help. Busy scenes and subjects that touch the edge of the photo are harder.
For web shops and marketplaces, choose a white background and download a JPG, which most platforms prefer. For logos, stickers and designs, keep the transparent PNG. If the edge looks rough, raise Edge softness a little, and use Trim edge to remove a thin halo of the old background.
The tool decides automatically what to keep. You cannot paint parts back in by hand, so if it keeps the wrong object, crop the photo closer to your subject first and try again. Switching from Fast to Best quality can also help with difficult edges such as hair.

How good is the result?
It is very good for clear subjects such as portraits, pets, products and cars. Fine hair, fur, glass and see through objects are harder and can leave a soft or slightly patchy edge. Busy scenes with many objects may keep or drop the wrong part.
Why is there a download the first time?
The AI model is about 30 MB with Best quality, or 8 MB with Fast. It is downloaded once and kept in your browser, so the next photo starts right away. Your photo itself is never sent anywhere.
Which model should I use?
Best quality gives cleaner edges and makes fewer mistakes on difficult photos. Fast is a much smaller download and quicker on older phones, with slightly rougher edges.
Can I get a white background instead of transparent?
Yes. Tap the white swatch, or pick any colour. The download is then a JPG, which every app and shop accepts.
Can I remove the background on my phone?
Yes. It runs in the browser on newer phones. Choose Fast on older phones, because it is lighter and quicker.
Can I remove backgrounds from several photos at once?
Yes. Choose several images and download each result, or all of them together.
Does it work for passport photos?
It can put a person on a plain white or coloured background. Official passport photos have strict rules, so check those before you use it for an application.
