Private by design
Your documents are not sent anywhere. The page loads a document reader into your browser and builds the PDF on your own computer or phone, so it is safe for letters, CVs and contracts.
Each page is drawn as a sharp image, and the words are added on top as invisible text, so you can still search the PDF and copy from it.
Word to PDF without Microsoft Office
Sending a CV, letter or report as a PDF means it looks the same for everyone, and nobody can change it by accident. Many job sites and offices ask for a PDF. If you have no Word on this computer, or you are on a phone or a Chromebook, you can still turn the .docx into a PDF here.
Check the result before you send it, especially line breaks, page breaks and fonts. If your document uses a special font, the PDF may show a similar one instead. For a CV that recruiters will search and copy from, try Print or save with selectable text for the sharpest text.
If you have Word itself, File then Save As then PDF also works and keeps the layout exactly. This tool is for when you do not, or when you want to convert a whole batch of documents at once. Google Docs and LibreOffice can also export a PDF if you have them.
Questions
Will my PDF look the same as in Word?
Very close for most letters, reports and CVs. Pages, headers, footers, images, tables, lists and colours are kept. Word itself is not used, so line and page breaks can fall a little differently, and fonts you do not have on this device are replaced by similar ones. Text boxes, charts, equations and some page layouts may not look exactly right.
Can I select the text in the PDF?
The normal PDF draws each page as a high quality image with a hidden text layer, so you can search and copy, but zooming in far makes the text slightly soft. Choose Print or save with selectable text and pick Save as PDF in the print window to get real text instead. That PDF is made by your browser's own printing.
Can it convert old .doc files?
No. The old .doc format from Word 2003 and earlier cannot be read here. Open the file in Word, LibreOffice or Google Docs, save it as .docx, and convert that.
What about password protected documents?
A Word file with a password to open is encrypted, and it cannot be read here. Remove the password in Word first, then convert it.
How do I convert Word to PDF on my phone?
Open this page in your phone's browser, choose the .docx file from your files and download the PDF.
Can I convert many Word documents at once?
Yes. Choose them all and download the PDFs together as one zip file.
Are comments and tracked changes included?
No. The PDF shows the document text itself. Accept or reject tracked changes in Word first if you want to be sure what ends up in the PDF.
