QR code generator

Make a QR code for a link, your WiFi, a contact card and more. It is created on your device and never expires.

Error correction (how much damage it survives)

How it works

  1. Pick what the code should hold, such as a link or your WiFi network, and fill in the details.
  2. Choose colours, style and size if you like. The preview updates while you type.
  3. Download it as PNG for screens and documents, or SVG for sharp printing at any size.

Private by design

Many QR code websites send your codes through their own short link, so they can count scans or switch the code off later unless you pay. The codes made here hold your content directly. They keep working forever and nobody sees who scans them.

The code is built in your browser, so your WiFi password or contact details are never sent anywhere. You can even make codes with the internet switched off.

Error correction lets a code still scan when part of it is dirty or covered. Higher levels make the code denser, so use Medium for most things and High when you print it on something that may get scratched.

Tips for a QR code that always scans

QR codes are handy on flyers, menus, business cards, posters and at the front door for guests to join your WiFi. Keep the content short, because a long link makes a dense code that is harder to scan. Test the code with two different phones before you print a large batch.

Print it at least 2 by 2 cm for close reading, like a business card, and bigger for posters seen from a distance. Roughly, the code should be a tenth of the scanning distance wide. Keep the white border around it and use dark on light. Use SVG for print so it stays sharp at any size.

The code holds the link itself, so it cannot be changed after printing. If you might want to change the target later, point the code at a page you control and change that page instead. Choose High error correction for codes on stickers or packaging that may get scratched.

Questions

Do these QR codes expire?

No. The content is stored in the code itself, not behind a link of ours, so it works for as long as the printed code exists.

How does the WiFi QR code work?

Most phones read it with the camera and offer to join the network, without typing the password. Special characters in the name or password are escaped correctly for you.

Which colours can I use?

Any, as long as there is enough contrast. Dark on a light background scans best. You will see a warning when the colours are too close together.

PNG or SVG?

PNG is fine for websites, documents and screens. SVG stays perfectly sharp at any size, which is ideal for print and design programs.

Can I add a logo to the middle of the QR code?

Not with this tool. You can choose colours, a dot style, margin and error correction.

How do I make a QR code for my WiFi?

Choose WiFi, type the network name and password, and pick the security type. Print it and guests can join by pointing their camera at it.

What sizes can I download?

PNG comes in 512, 1024 or 2048 pixels. SVG can be scaled to any size without losing sharpness.
